The gauge is in the red. What do I do right now?
Pull over safely, switch the engine off and leave the bonnet closed until it cools. Do not open the radiator cap. Call us and stay with the car.
Can I top up the coolant and carry on?
If coolant is low, something let it out. Topping up hides the leak and the engine overheats again, usually somewhere less convenient.
It only overheats in traffic. Is that still serious?
Yes. It usually points at the radiator fan or a blocked radiator, because at a standstill there is no air flow to help. It is a repair, not a quirk.
Can an overheating engine be repaired at my location?
Hoses, thermostats, coolant, fan faults and many radiator jobs are done on site. A head gasket is garage work — we collect the car and bring it back.
