Timing Belt and Drive Belt Replacement
A timing belt is one of the few parts that is replaced on schedule rather than when it fails, and there is a reason for that. On most engines a snapped timing belt does not leave you stranded — it destroys the engine. Replacing it on time is one of the cheapest decisions a car owner makes.
When it is due
Every manufacturer differs, commonly between 60,000 and 100,000 km. Heat shortens it. If you bought the car second hand and have no record of the belt being done, assume it has not been.

Worth replacing at the same time
The tensioner and idler pulleys, and usually the water pump, since the labour to reach them has already been paid for once.

The belt that drives your alternator, AC compressor and power steering. If it squeals on a cold start, or looks cracked and glazed, it is on its way out.

How the work is done

How do I know if my timing belt has ever been changed?
Service records, or a look at the belt itself. With no record, the safe assumption is that it has not been done.
What happens if it snaps?
On most engines the valves and pistons collide and the engine is destroyed. That is the whole reason this part is replaced on time rather than on failure.
Why replace the water pump at the same time?
On many engines it sits behind the timing belt. Doing both together means paying for that labour once instead of twice.
My belt squeals on a cold start. Is that the timing belt?
Usually the serpentine belt, which is on the outside of the engine and much quicker to replace. We can do that one at your location.
