Questions we are asked
Is a slipping gearbox always a rebuild?
No. Low or degraded fluid, a sensor or a solenoid can cause the same symptoms, and those are far cheaper. That is exactly why it is worth diagnosing early.
When should automatic transmission fluid be changed?
Sooner than most service books assume in this climate. If there is no record of it ever being done, treat it as due.
Can you diagnose the gearbox at my location?
Yes. The diagnosis, the fluid level and condition, and the fault codes are all read at the car. Only the heavier repairs need the garage.
There is a patch of red fluid under my car. Is that the gearbox?
Very likely transmission fluid. Do not keep driving it low — running a gearbox short of fluid is what turns a small repair into a big one.
